Misinformation, Disinformation & Human Rights

Oct 24, 2024

Venue
Online (Zoom link will be shared via email)

We envision a discussion that addresses why and how misinformation and disinformation deprive people of accurate, relevant information needed to protect their human rights and expose human rights violations, as well as the human rights obligations of governments to ensure people have access to information so they can participate effectively in a democratic society.

The discussion will also address the importance of media literacy, including the many tools used to manipulate information (access and content), and the need for effective tools to assess the reliability of information so people can identify and address threats to (and violations of) human rights, and more broadly to protect the rule of law.
